Open or Closed Occasion Abaya? A Fabric Decision Checklist

Original Hibiscus Nacre Noire Italian silk jacquard TG-1423.

Choose the role of the abaya before choosing the decorative fabric. An open design shows an inner outfit and moving front edges; a closed design gives the outer cloth a larger continuous field.

If the abaya is open

  • Compare the cloth with the actual inner dress colour.
  • Plan the motif beside both front edges.
  • Check the reverse that may show when walking.
  • Balance the sleeve volume with the inner outfit.

If the abaya is closed

  • Choose where the main motif should sit on the front.
  • Review panel lines, neckline and any opening.
  • Check coverage and lining throughout the design.
  • Compare movement while sitting as well as standing.

For either design

Confirm the usable width, weight information where provided, direction and repeat before calculating the order. The same fabric can produce different results in these two constructions. A model image is a styling reference, not a guaranteed cutting plan.
